(June 14, 2002) - Sun Microsystems, Inc. has changed the landscape of the portal market with Sun ONE Portal Server 6, the first portal server solution to include fully integrated, secure identity management capabilities. The company also unveiled its product roadmap to support all three market-leading J2EE application servers: BEA WebLogic, IBM WebSphere, and Sun ONE. The Sun ONE Portal Server 6 will be deployed on Linux and Windows 2000 operating systems in addition to its reference platform, the Solaris operating environment. The Sun ONE Portal Server 6 (formerly iPlanet Portal Server) is the only portal server both rated number one in market share by The Radicati Group and positioned in the leader quadrant in Gartner's Portal Product Magic Quadrant for two consecutive years. The new Sun ONE Portal Server provides Web single sign-on, policy and access control, service provisioning, and unified user management, via the embedded Sun ONE Identity Server. It also provides all of the development tools and portlet ISV support required to deploy employee, customer, and business partner portals. The Sun ONE Portal Server 6 offers more choices and relief from vendor "lock in." Customers will be able to deploy the portal server on their choice of the three marketshare-leading application servers within heterogeneous environments to create and realize the TCO inherent in a consistent data center environment. The Java-based Sun ONE Portal enables customers to easily move applications, Web services, and portals to other standards-based vendor platforms without the cost previously associated with such moves. More than 28 ISVs are working to incorporate the Sun ONE Portal Server 6 into their solutions. These partners include: Actuate, Bowstreet, Broad Daylight, Citrix, D2K, Divine, Documentum, FatWire, Halcyon Monitoring Solutions, HNC (Blaze Advisor From HNC), Interwoven, Kivera, LogicLibrary, NewsEdge, Open Text, PiroNet NDH, Prophecy International, RSA Security, Screaming Media, Tarantella, T4 Consulting Group (T4CG), TogetherSoft, Vignette, Vuico (NTT SOFT), Wokup!, Xacct Technologies, Yahoo!, and YellowBrix. Leading system integrators that today offer Sun ONE portal solutions (such as Computer Sciences Corporation, EDS, AC Technology, ePresence, MG Solutions, Navidec, and S/scape) can now develop portal solutions that provide their customers with the increased security, more efficient administration, and richer portal experience of this new version. The Sun ONE Portal Server 6 is scheduled for general availability in August; support for the three industry leading J2EE application servers is scheduled for the end of 2002; Windows and Linux support is scheduled for the first half of 2003. Pricing will be announced at general availability. Visit www.sun.com for more information. Reader Feedback: Page 1 of 1
