Six Months' Free Use of WebLogic Available Starting Today
Six Months' Free Use of WebLogic Available Starting Today

(September 23, 2002) - They will need a license once six months have elapsed, but even so developers around the world today are going to be busily downloading a fully functioning copy of BEA's WebLogic application server, because the San Jose, California-based company is bundling it free with all copies of Hewlett Packard's HP-UX 11i operating system. Continued use after the free half-year will require a licensing payment to BEA Systems at the going rate. As if this were not enough, Java developers who favor the WebLogic app server will be delighted to hear that HP in tends soon to bundle WebLogic with HP platforms, not just the HP 11i. So NonStop Kernel users, plus those who use Open VMS and the Tru64 Unix, as well as Windows 2000 and Linux, won't have to miss out on the new HP-BEA lovefest. JDJ-IN was concerned that perhaps the "free" part of this free software initiative would fail to extend to the thorny question of support. But apparently we needn't have worried: BEA's EvalNet will be the vehicle by which they can get ahold of full support from a team of developer relations engineers throughout the six months.
