Sun and China Unicom to Bring Mobile Java Technology Services to the World's Largest Wireless Market
Sun and China Unicom to Bring Mobile Java Technology Services to the World's Largest Wireless Market

(December 3, 2002) - Sun Microsystems, Inc and China Unicom have formed a strategic partnership to jointly build an end-to-end Java technology-enabled wireless data infrastructure. Based on the J2ME platform, this joint effort delivers enhanced data services for China Unicom's 60 million mobile subscribers.

The companies hope to have the first Java technology-based applications available to China Unicom subscribers by the first quarter of 2003. Offering advanced and innovative data capabilities will help China Unicom to remain competitive as the PRC's mobile consumers demand more sophisticated wireless services. The new class of data applications also creates an opportunity for local Java developers to leverage the solutions they create for China and other countries, even where different network systems and other mobile information devices are in use.

Yes, beans as in various service kind
of beans that will work in this environment.

That's a great business strategy by Sun.
Move the product and the api's closest
to where the hardware is being designed
and built. The good thing is that once
the Chinese govt. come up with standards
that work, no one will dare break them :-)

Java will be dominant phone platform, so who get Mobile Java tech will be more competitive in Wireless service.

Dr. MA

I am wondering how many programmers in China are doing programming in Java or are there many java application being used? Can anyone tell me here?

willie

What's in the wireless data infrustrure. It is too vague. Does the location info included and released to the ASP so that location based services/data retrieval will be a possibility?

Yuanlin

See what happened so quickly?
