New Java Development Tools from IBM
New Java Development Tools from IBM

(March 31, 2003) - IBM has announced it latest version of its IBM Branch Transformation Toolkit for WebSphere Studio. The IBM Branch Transformation Toolkit is a set of Java development tools and components that accelerate construction of high-speed, high-volume transactional applications that access existing mission critical systems. It is part of the WebSphere Studio development and deployment environment that uses open-standards-based software to build, test, and deploy on-demand e-business applications.

The new version offers:

  • Essential development workbench enhancements that speed the application development lifecycle and allow for easier integration with external tools
  • New sample applications that address functionality such as the implementation of Web services. This helps to jumpstart development efforts and reduce time to market for applications
  • Sample code that illustrates the provision of IBM Branch Transformation Toolkit for WebSphere Studio applications as WebSphere Portal Server portlets

The product is especially attractive to the retail banking industry, but can provide benefits to enterprises in any industry that desire the control and flexibility associated with building integrated, transaction-oriented, applications that are accessed by customers through multiple delivery channels (e.g., Web browser, Cell phone, ATM, Service representatives such as tellers).

Developers today face the challenge of finding tools that let them build business logic one time so they can reuse the logic to more efficiently and rapidly develop different channel applications. Rather than re-code each time, they want to be able to tap into mission critical systems where data is stored and get that data out to multiple places so it looks the same and does the same thing for every transaction regardless of point of interaction.

The IBM Branch Transformation Toolkit for WebSphere Studio helps developers address these challenges. It helps them rapidly develop modern multi-channel front-end applications for distributed retail environments. It provides an application development framework that enables customers to rapidly deploy and dynamically adjust business logic across all channels. And the faster and more efficiently the different channel applications can be built, the faster, more efficient, and accurate the information is that the customers receive.

IBM is wise to continue to make their products easier to use. Developers have a lot of input into IDE selection, so they deserve assistance with the most difficult portions of their tasks.
