Wedgetail Declares Peace Between Java and Windows
Wedgetail Declares Peace Between Java and Windows

(April 14, 2003) - Java and Windows have long been locked in a pitched battle for superiority as the leading Internet platform. Wedgetail has declared peace with the announcement of Java Crypto and Security Implementation (JCSI) Single Sign-On, the first in a suite of new products that integrates Microsoft and Java security technology and addresses identity management and access control issues for Java application servers.

The authentication solution for Java application servers uses Windows Integrated Authentication to provide single sign-on for Java applications in a Windows environment. This is significant in itself as it achieves the major goals of single sign-on, namely ease of use and ease of deployment, without sacrificing security. However this is only the beginning of the story. Wedgetail has made the integration of Microsoft and Java security technology its primary focus, and will introduce more products over the coming months to address identity management and access control issues for Java application servers.

JCSI Single Sign-On uses Java Kerberos technology, which is compatible with Active Directory and is more secure than cookie based mechanisms. Enterprises can now deploy J2EE applications in a Windows environment and leverage Active Directory to provide a single security environment. By reusing Active Directory security, Java applications no longer need to manage users and passwords.

Active directory and J2EE are coming together more often to provide a platform for enterprise applications such as supply chain management (SCM) and customer relationship management (CRM). Organizations are looking to protect their data and infrastructure by implementing identity management strategies. The security of these applications depends on strong authentication and authorization mechanism.
