Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

ActiveBPEL for People Public Beta Available from Active Endpoints
ActiveBPEL will deliver human interaction management using BPEL and SOA orchestration standards

Active Endpoints, Inc. (www.active-endpoints.com), the leading provider of BPEL-based Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) orchestration products and services, announced public Beta availability of ActiveBPEL for People, an integrated ActiveBPEL-based solution for human interaction and workflow management.  The new product adds critical human interaction capabilities to the market-leading ActiveBPEL product suite.  ActiveBPEL for People uses WS-BPEL 2.0 to integrate human interaction with business processes, adding powerful extensions for building custom workflows and workflow-related user interfaces.

ActiveBPEL for People provides all the capabilities needed to create, test, deploy and manage human-centric business systems.  By leveraging the full power of ActiveBPEL’s loosely-coupled SOA foundation, organizations are assured that their workflow applications are highly interoperable and adaptable to business changes.  Further, Active Endpoints’ longstanding commitment to investment protection assures customers that they can build workflow applications today with the confidence that those applications will have an automated migration path to future SOA standards.

“We are pleased to have achieved Beta status with ActiveBPEL for People,” said Chris Keller, Active Endpoints co-founder and vice president of product development.  “This new product will provide customers with a standards-based solution for integrating human interactions with their ActiveBPEL processes.  We look forward to completing a successful Beta test cycle and delivering ActiveBPEL for People to our ISV and enterprise users.”

Key capabilities of ActiveBPEL for People include:

  • Extensions to ActiveBPEL Designer, the SOA community’s leading BPEL authoring environment, that support the design, testing and deployment of human-centric BPEL processes
  • New human interaction operations that are wrapped in Web services and invoked as BPEL activities
  • Task Editor and Task Inbox controls that can be directly embedded into SOA applications or used as templates for creating custom user interfaces
  • An ActiveBPEL Task Services subsystem that creates and manages the complete lifecycle of human tasks
  • Alarm, escalation and notification services that allow human-centric applications to be easily integrated with enterprise monitoring and management infrastructures
  • An identity services infrastructure that integrates with popular enterprise directories to support roles and rights configurations –  such as owners, users and administrators –  of human tasks
  • Supports common workflow patterns:
     - Four eyes
     - Nomination

ActiveBPEL for People will be available as an add-on module to the ActiveBPEL Enterprise product suite. Those interested in participating in the Beta test may contact Active Endpoints at info@active-endpoints.com or 203-929-9400 x709, and online at http://www.active-endpoints.com/activebpel-for-people-beta.htm?ls=pr0531.
