Many IT organizations look to the private cloud to improve agility and simplify business operations

PlexxiPulse - Eliminating Private Cloud Networking Barriers
By Mat Mathews

Many IT organizations look to the private cloud to improve agility and simplify business operations. More and more are introducing converged and hyperconverged infrastructure solutions to support cloud initiatives and agile development practices. But there is too often a road block - legacy data center networks.

Private clouds require a new multipurpose data center network to support diverse applications and workloads without sacrificing performance or service quality. Fully programmable and highly adaptable, the next-generation network easily integrates with service orchestration tools and DevOps systems to enable elastic services and self-serve IT. And it supports seamless workload mobility within and across data centers to ensure high availability for business-critical applications.

Below please find a few of our top picks for our favorite news articles of the week.

Baseline: Software-Defined Infrastructure Increases Agility
By Mike Vizard
An SDI framework enables an IT organization to respond faster to the evolving needs of the business, while fundamentally changing the way IT is managed. The rise of software-defined infrastructure may be one of those seminal changes to the ways enterprise technology is managed that comes along once in a decade. Unfortunately, it may take most IT organizations about half that long to implement SDI. At its core, SDI seeks to eliminate the need to manually manage servers, storage and networks by making use of application programming interfaces (APIs) that make the entire IT infrastructure-deployed both inside and out of the enterprise-programmable.

TechRepublic: Massive Delta outage highlights need for quality data center power, backup plans
By Alison DeNisco
A Delta ground stop was lifted Monday morning following a 2:30 a.m. ET power outage in Atlanta that delayed and cancelled flights worldwide. Businesses should view this as a cautionary tale, highlighting the importance of quality data center power and disaster control systems. Delta cancelled approximately 300 flights due to the outage. As of 10:30 a.m. ET, it operated 800 of its nearly 6,000 scheduled flights. However, Delta customers heading to the airport on Monday should still expect delays and cancellations, according to a press release. As inquiries are high and wait times are long, there may also be some lag time in the display of accurate flight status from the airline, it warned.

Data Center Frontier: The Rise of the Build-to-Suit Cloud Data Center
By Rich Miller
Cloud computing it is changing data center development, with action now shifting to a build-to-suit model in which cloud builders pre-lease entire buildings for themselves, representing 12 megawatts or more of new capacity. Wholesale data center providers, who have previously built multi-tenant buildings and leased them one data hall at a time, are adapting their model to accommodate the build-to-suit demand. In the latest example, CyrusOne has just acquired a building in Northern Virginia, which has already been fully leased to a hyperscale data center customer. The 130,000 square foot building will provide 12 megawatts of IT capacity for the fast-growing cloud provider.
