Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Eclipse 3.3 Release, Europa, Ready for Download
Eclipse project releases available as customizable packages through Web 2.0 developer portal

With the next major release of Eclipse, codenamed Europa available on eclipse.org, Innoopract, an Eclipse specialist and provider of the Yoxos Eclipse Distribution, announced a new portal that simplifies the process for creating and downloading custom Eclipse downloads. The Web 2.0 portal called Eclipse Discovery enables developers to choose from all 21 Europa projects plus hundreds of third-party add-ons to create a tailored software bundle as a single download. In addition, Eclipse, under project leadership from Innoopract, has made available new standard download packages.

As Eclipse has evolved from a Java IDE into a multifaceted tooling environment for several programming languages, databases, modeling tools and much more, the task of finding the “right” set of Eclipse plug-ins for any given development task has become much more challenging. With the next major version of the popular Eclipse software now available, developers benefit from two new innovations in the way they find, evaluate and download their software from the huge range of available Eclipse projects and third-party add-ons.

First, under the project leadership of Innoopract, Eclipse has responded to the requests by developers to reduce the complexity of assembling a bundle of Eclipse software by introducing four new software bundles called packages for four different user roles: Enterprise, Java, C and the base Eclipse SDK platform.

Innoopract has also expanded its own offerings to further meet the demands of the Eclipse development community. With the company’s new portal, Eclipse Discovery (www.yoxos.com/eclipsediscovery), users are given a Web 2.0 interface to the largest library of Eclipse components or plug-ins available from which they can create customized download packages.

Eclipse Discovery is the second generation of Innoopract’s “On Demand” download service based on its Yoxos Eclipse Distribution. Eclipse Discovery lets users configure a customized integrated bundle of Eclipse plugins. The preparation of the single download automatically determines and includes all the necessary dependencies to other plug-ins so that the resulting Eclipse installation always works right from the beginning.
