"Fans On the Go" Are Latest Target for the Booming WWF Franchise
Jan. 1, 2000 12:00 AM
WWF Mobile Madness, to be more precise. This is the trademarked name of the video game newly released for wireless devices by THQ, Inc., best known (till now) for supplying chains like Wal-Mart and Toys 'R' Us with with games for PCs on CD-ROM. It would seem that THQ sees unleashing mobile mayhem from its base in Calabasas Hills, California, as the surest way to bring joy to the owners of Java-enabled phones. "Additional versions of WWF Mobile Madness will be available early in 2002 for all SMS and WAP-enabled mobile devices," THQ Wireless general manager Doug Dyer assures WBT. "THQ Wireless is very excited that one of its first mobile games is based on a license as recognizable as the WWF," he added. The World Wrestling Federation for its part, through its WWF Entertainment arm, is excited too. From his Stamford, Connecticut, base its executive VP for international business development, Roger Marment, purred: "An important element of our global strategy is to make World Wrestling Federation content available in as many countries and on as many different platforms as possible." Fans won't have time to wonder if Kane and Undertaker even know what a Java-enabled mobile phone looks like, mind you. They'll be too embroiled in what the backers of Mobile Madness are hoping will turn out to be its "addictive gameplay." And so yet another three-letter acronym makes it into the Dictionary of Mobile Offerings. . .WWF. Reader Feedback: Page 1 of 1
