New Wireless Alliance Will Help Operators Boost ARPU
Jan. 1, 2000 12:00 AM
(March 26, 2002) CTIA’s Orlando event is not the only game in town, of course. Far way in San Francisco, the world of Java beckons, in the form of JavaOne – Sun Microsystems’ annual developer conference. At this year’s JavaOne, which opened just yesterday, the entire sub-industry of “wireless Java” developers and vendors gathered to display and admire the many new and upcoming Java-enabled phones that are entering the market in 2002, as operators at last upgrade their infrastructure to handle application downloads. Perfect timing, you may be thinking, for the announcement of a new organization for wireless Java developers who want to make their applications available to mobile operators not just in the US but throughout the world. Enter Pixo, Inc., a leading provider of platforms for wireless Java downloading for mobile devices...with a great new idea. Pixo, headquartered in San Jose, California, but with offices in London and Hong Kong, has announced the “Pixo Wireless Java Alliance” – which aims to be a bridge between the application developer and the operator. Timed to coincide not just with JavaOne but also with the launch by many mobile operators of data service offerings of one kind or another, the new Alliance seeks to bring together developers and operators to provide the very best wireless Java applications available. ”Operators throughout the world will benefit from this program, which leverages the database of existing tried-and-true games and wireless Java applications that Pixo has tested via its relationships with developers,” Mark Grandcolas, vice president of strategic alliances at Pixo, tells WBT. "We are providing solutions to mobile operators who need compelling applications to boost their Average Revenue Per User (ARPU)." Pixo specializes in providing operators an "out-of-the-box" system, complete with mobile download provisioning technology and back-end management solutions (the Mobile Download Server). Through Pixo's Wireless Java Alliance, Grandcolas asserts, wireless operators can eliminate the need to search for compelling applications and content, which in turn simplifies trial and deployment, thereby driving usage and – hopefully - revenue.
