Jan. 16, 2004 12:00 AM
(January 16, 2004) - Symbian has announced that the Nokia 6620 is the first smartphone based on Symbian OS for use on EDGE networks. Optimized for the Americas market, the high-speed capability of EDGE technology enables the Nokia 6620 to rapidly deliver video and application downloads. Built on the Symbian OS-based Series 60 platform, it supports a number of business-focused applications, allowing companies to securely mobilize data and their workforces. The Nokia 6620 is expected to be available during Q2 of 2004. Symbian OS is the global industry standard operating system for advanced mobile phones and is licensed by the world's leading handset manufacturers. At the end of Q3 2003, 31 phones and variants based on Symbian OS were under development by nine licensees. For further information please see www.symbian.com/phones/nokia_6620.html.
