Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

WS-Security Just Became an OASIS Standard
WS-Security Just Became an OASIS Standard

Here's the text of the announcement:

OASIS members:

I had previously announced that the Web Services Security v1.0
(WS-Security 2004) Committee Draft from the OASIS Web Services Security
TC had received sufficient affirmative votes to be approved as an OASIS
Standard, but because there was a negative vote the TC needed to decide
how to proceed. The co-chairs of the WSS TC have now informed me that
the TC has decided to request the specification be approved despite the
negative vote.

I am pleased, therefore, to announce that Web Services Security v1.0
(WS-Security 2004) has been approved as an OASIS Standard.

Please see http://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/wss/200404/msg00056.html
for the notice from the co-chairs of the TC's action.

-Karl

Excellent. Its finally a standard. One more hurdle crossed. The question now is, will it make it into a WS-I profile so that compatibility across systems can be ensured?

There are lots of other promising standards both from MS and IBM as well as Liberty Alliance and it would be great for developers if they converged soon and became accepted. Then truly enterprise class webservices can become a reality.
