The goal is to extend the use of Flash, and it is indeed from the Flash community that the company has garnered a number of ideas and built them into the Flex framework, making drag-and-drop building of apps easier, together with enhanced coding support aimed at helping developers learn MXML and ActionScript more quickly. Flex Builder is modeled on Macromedia's popular Dreamweaver tool. "Flex Builder is to Flex what Dreamweaver is to HTML," as Jeff Whatcott, VP of product management, expressed it.
