Oracle Is Expected To Start Firing People Wholesale Today, January 14

With PeopleSoft finally in its pocket, Oracle is expected to start firing people wholesale today, January 14. Some 6,000 people, mostly PeopleSoft folk, roughly 11% of the total headcount - perhaps as much as 25%-50% of PeopleSoft's staff - are initially supposed to be cut from the combined companies. Prudential says its contacts think Oracle has let many of the internal line managers in its own applications group go already. It could replace them with internal promotions or with people from PeopleSoft. Wasting no time, Microsoft formally announced a new migration program for PeopleSoft and JD Edwards customers and partners on Monday. Microsoft, which is pushing its Great Plains and Axapta stuff, is offering 25% discounts and strategic advice.
