A number of companies, including Samsung and Infineon, worked together to develop the smartphone, which supports the latest 3G mobile network which can transfer data at speeds up to 2.4MBps. The handset is comprised of Infineon's UMTS/Edge dual-mode protocol stack, Samsung's Linux kernel and Montavista-certified drivers. Samsung also used Qtopia's software platform for Linux-based mobiles and Emuzed's audio and video applications. The phone is very similar to Samsung's first Symbian smartphone, which was unveiled but never released at CommunicAsia in 2004. The handset shown at Canne uses a slide up design and features a 1Mpixel camera and supports Bluetooth and MPEG4 files and MP3. Other features include 64MB of RAM and an SDIO-enabled secure digital slot for peripheral and memory expansion. The USA FCC approved the smartphone for release in the United States last month.
