Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

WindowBuilderPro Serves Java Developers
Supports Mixed SWT and Swing Java User Interfaces

Instantiations, Inc. has released WindowBuilder Pro 4.0, an enterprise Java development product that supports both the Eclipse-based standard widget toolkit (SWT) and Sun's Swing component technology in a single solution.

With the new 4.0 release, WindowBuilder allows SWT and Swing components to be mixed so that Swing widgets can be embedded into SWT windows. Also new in version 4.0 is support for the popular JGoodies FormLayout that enables creation of precise and flexible Swing form windows.

"The availability of a powerful tool like WindowBuilder proved instrumental in our department deciding to use Java on the client," said Dimitry Fayerman, Sr. Consultant, Wyeth Pharmaceuticals. "Before we discovered WindowBuilder the perception was that high quality java clients could be created but the development effort was prohibitive and only few highly skilled developers could do it. WindowBuilder changed that perception."

WindowBuilder provides a visual design environment that includes intelligent layout assist, drag-and-drop, direct property editing and widget morphing. Developers can select from a complete set of layout managers as well as SWT, JFace, AWT or Swing controls to create rich client platform (RCP) applications. WindowBuilder Pro installs into any Eclipse-based development tool, including Rational Application Developer, and provides a Java GUI construction environment.

WindowBuilder 4.0 products are available immediately for Eclipse 2.0, 2.1, 3.0, 3.1, Rational Application Developer 6.0 and WebSphere Studio Application Developer 5.0, 5.1 running on Windows 2000/XP or Linux/GTK2. The price per developer for WindowBuilder Pro is $299, SWT Designer is $199 and Swing Designer is $199. More information is available at www.instantiations.com.
