Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

DiGi Telecommunications Selects Video Streaming Services From LogicaCMG

LONDON, April 19 /PRNewswire/ -- LogicaCMG today announced it has won a contract with DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (DiGi), a prepaid mobile market leader in Malaysia, to deploy Next Generation video streaming services in partnership with Nextreaming and Inphosoft.

LogicaCMG undertook all the systems integration for the implementation while Nextreaming and Inphosoft provided the advanced streaming solution. As a result of the close collaboration between the three companies, DiGi's EDGE and GPRS mobile customers will soon have the highest quality multimedia services available in the world, coupled with DiGi's optimised network to provide faster response times for applications.

With this new enhancement and the optimised network, DiGi will be able to provide faster response times for applications and offer improved application performance and advanced data services. DiGi customers will now be able to view content-rich video streaming and listen to audio clips on their handsets. They will also be able to tap the latest in entertainment offerings and news feeds through DiGi's Mobile TV service.

The video streaming solution will enable DiGi to select, manage, publish, control and charge for streaming content. Customers can access this content by browsing DiGi's Web or WAP portal and receive teasers via MMS alerts.

"We expect video streaming to be an attractive application that will enhance our customers' lifestyle. DiGi has always been at the forefront in providing value-added services and we will continue to offer applications that help customers to stay connected and have access to information and entertainment with greater mobility, speed, convenience and clarity" said Jon Eddy, DiGi's Chief Technology Officer. "We have worked with LogicaCMG over the years, and they have demonstrated a strong expertise in systems integration. The ability to customise solutions and integrate them into our existing platform allows us to easily consolidate our content management platform for a more robust solution offering. This helps us save time and maximises our return of investment."

"Our focus on delivering innovative applications and telecoms solutions have become a key differentiator for LogicaCMG. In this instance, we were able to empower DiGi to offer richer mobile experience, which will in turn give them the opportunity to generate more revenue from mobile data traffic. LogicaCMG is a global leader in telecom products, services and solutions and the deployment with DiGi demonstrates our expertise in enabling operators to assure innovation in Next Generation telecoms," said Boudewijn Pesch, managing director, global telecoms of LogicaCMG in Asia.

LogicaCMG has worked with DiGi since the 1990's and has installed robust solutions such as its Short Messaging Service Centre (SMSC) and billing platform based on its experience in delivering mission-critical integrated solutions.
