Somehow we suspect Microsoft may not think e-mail is "broken" like Zimbra, a partner of Red Hat, does, but if Microsoft does acquires Yahoo and you hear a crunch, you can imagine Zimbra's back breaking. Well, it's an integration challenge at any rate. ZCS 5.0, which runs on Linux and Mac and is supposed to be an open source Exchange alternative, supports Outlook 2007, the Blackberry Enterprise Server, J2ME-enabled handset like poor Motorola's RAZR and mobile web browsers including the iPhone, and its integrated IM supports multiple conservations and group chats. The so-called Zimlets in the thing leverage Yahoo's Flickr, Local, Finance and Search properties and Zimbra has the idea it'll be incorporated later this year in the consumer-y Yahoo Mail and Calendar. There's a free ZCS version, available under the Mozilla license - well, at least the server is - and a commercial one, available on a 60-day free trial
