Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Nexaweb Advance Offers Customers Comprehensive Solution for Legacy Modernization and Enterprise Web 2.0 Adoption
New Product & Services Bundle Delivers Repeatable, Legacy Modernization Methodology and Architecture

Nexaweb Technologies announced Nexaweb Advancesm  — a technology-enabled modernization solution that allows enterprises to transform legacy business applications from 3GL/4GL technologies to rich, composite web applications with less risk, in less time, and at less cost.

Enterprise organizations have long desired to move to web-based application platforms and solutions that reduce the total cost of ownership, improve customer service and remove geographical and technical barriers to adoption.  Yet, most have chosen to continually spend an average of 60-85% of their IT budget maintaining these legacy applications rather then modernizing them. This is because for many, a manual modernization process poses too many risks, will take too long, and is too expensive.  Legacy migration tools offer a code-to-code or database-to-database solution, but fall well short of providing an application transformation solution that supports standards-based development and web deployment.

“Web 2.0 is having a revolutionary effect on the enterprise workforce, and much like client/server replaced mainframe, will forever change the future of business application development,” said Judith Hurwitz, president, Hurwitz & Associates. “It is important that customers have the opportunity to leverage the corporate value that is captive inside their legacy artifacts so that they can quickly move to a more dynamic platform that supports business growth.”

Nexaweb Advance pairs Nexaweb’s award-winning Enterprise Web Suite with automated code generation tools and its Professional Services experts to deliver a repeatable, Model Driven Architecture approach to the transformation of legacy PowerBuilder, ColdFusion, C++, VisualBasic, and Oracle Forms applications.

The application transformation process with Nexaweb Advance includes the following steps:

  • Capture: Auto-generate documentation of legacy artifacts, logic, User Interface (UI) elements and data maps in standards-based representation (UML, etc.)
  • Re-factor: Eliminate duplicative and corrupt code, review code for architectural integrity, and delver UI and business logic to a customer-specified architecture
  • Re-compose: Auto-generate XML from documented legacy code, add new features and modify workflow, design Web UI and functionality using an Eclipse-based IDE
  • Deploy:  Install web application across any architecture including JSP/HTML through to Ajax and Java, on any JEE/Java, PHP, or .NET servers, and via the Web or the desktop
  • Maintain: Centrally managed code base supports all users, whatever their client configuration and network connection type, to reduce application maintenance time and costs by 75% on average

“Nexaweb Advance presents an exciting opportunity for enterprise organizations who are dealing with globalization, compliance and legacy software end of life initiatives,” said Chris Heidelberger, CEO at Nexaweb. “We’ve proven time and again that our Enterprise Web Suite offers customers tremendous time and cost savings around application development, deployment and maintenance.  With Nexaweb Advance, we’re embracing the legacy transformation aspect of the process, supporting it with expert services, and making it a core component of our total solution.”
