Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

.NET Developer ThinkGeo Releases Map Suite 3.0
More Attractive GIS Applications

ThinkGeo is excited to announce the release of Map Suite Web Edition 3.0 Beta 1, the next generation of its professional ASP.NET GIS server control. Web Edition 3.0 has been re-engineered from the ground-up to help .NET developers create more efficient, more powerful and more attractive Internet and Intranet GIS applications.

Map Suite Web Edition 3.0 offers a completely revamped API that's built for faster and simpler coding, better coherence and more extensibility. Designed for the .NET Framework version 3.5, Map Suite Web Edition 3.0 supports development in both the Visual Studio 2008 and Visual Studio 2005 environments. Developers can use Web Edition 3.0 to accomplish their goals with greater ease than the competition, or with previous versions of Map Suite.

Web-based GIS applications built with Web Edition 3.0 will also feature a vastly improved user experience right out of the box, with integrated AJAX controls, dynamic panning that fills in new areas of the map automatically, charts and graphs, customizable tooltips, markers, and balloons, Regular Expression rendering, and lots more.

Other major new features in Web Edition 3.0 include support for Web Map Services (WMS), background imagery from online mapping services like Google Maps and Yahoo Maps, and a wide variety of new spatial data formats like Oracle Spatial, PostgreSQL PostGIS, Microsoft SQL 2008, or any OpenGIS compliant custom data source.

Web application developers can start using Map Suite Web Edition 3.0 quickly and easily, thanks to over 80 bundled sample applications. The samples demonstrate how to implement all of Web Edition's core features, advanced capabilities and new enhancements, and come complete with full source code in C#.

ThinkGeo plans to release additional new products in the Map Suite 3.0 line over the coming weeks.
