Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Alfresco Selected to Power Acrobat.com Content Services
Company Partners with Adobe to Deliver Web-Based Content Services

Alfresco Software announced that Adobe has implemented Alfresco’s document sharing and collaboration capabilities as part of the file sharing features in Acrobat.com. Adobe chose Alfresco as its content repository for its clustered high-availability, security, and highly capable technical support. By working with Alfresco, Acrobat.com will be able to deliver content services that support millions of documents and terabytes of data.

Acrobat.com is a set of free online services – file sharing and storage, PDF conversion, online word processing, and web conferencing – that can be used to create and share documents, communicate in real time, and simplify collaboration within and between organizations and individuals. Alfresco’s open source content management software is used as the file repository in Acrobat.com, which allows users to simply share files and documents while maintaining control of those documents. Millions of users will have free access to Acrobat.com’s file sharing capability directly from Adobe Reader.

“Alfresco’s open source platform provides Acrobat.com with a robust content management foundation that allows us to deliver reliable web-based document collaboration services to our customers,” said Erik Larson, director of marketing and product management for Acrobat.com. “Critically, Alfresco’s feature set accelerated our ability to bring Acrobat.com to market.”

The Alfresco Enterprise Content Management (ECM) platform delivers people-centric content management and collaboration tools enabling users to mashup and present internal and external content, and bring social computing capabilities into the workplace, while retaining choice over the selection of best of breed tools and ensuring enterprise-level security and control.

“We are delighted to extend our partnership with Adobe to be a part of Acrobat.com,” said John Powell, CEO, Alfresco Software. “By basing Alfresco on standards and open source technology, we are changing the way companies look at content management, making it more accessible, affordable and componentized. More importantly, we have helped commoditize and consumerize content management, making it easy to embed into hosted and enterprise applications with next-generation RIA interfaces, such as Acrobat.com or Adobe LiveCycle.”
