Erik Carlin will be asking When Is The Right Time For Standards?

There have been several calls for standards to help make services from different cloud providers interoperable and ultimately more useful to businesses, notes Erik Carlin, Senior Cloud Architect at Mosso - the cloud computing division of Rackspace - and part of a star-studded lineup of speakers next week at SYS-CON's 1st International Cloud Computing Conference & Expo - but in the meantime the lack of interoperability and consistency across services keeps many businesses from adoption. As its Cloud Architect, Carlin's focus at Mosso is on innovation, optimization, and integration of cloud technologies.
Forrester Research analyst James Staten calls cloud computing "classic disruptive innovation - where the mainstream dismisses the product and small companies have time to create a real differentiated value." But there are so many offerings just now that what infrastructure architects are looking for above all is a set of organizing principles they can use to guide them in choosing between them all.
