Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

NetCracker Teams With Global Industry Leaders to Monetize the Services Ecosystem

NetCracker Technology is contributing its Service Management Solution and technical expertise to the ”Building Marketplaces Through Managed Syndicated Services” Catalyst Project to be demonstrated at Management World Orlando 2008 from November 17–20.

Phase 1 of the Syndicated Services Catalyst Project, unveiled at Management World Nice in May 2008, demonstrated how Communications Service Providers (CSPs) can launch products more rapidly and sell service elements to other players in the emerging Services Ecosystem. Phase 2 continues development of the infrastructure required to monetize the Ecosystem by focusing on Service Level Agreement (SLA) Management capabilities.

“Service syndication enables CSPs, technology vendors, application service providers, content creators, and content distributors to provide unique value-added services to consumers and businesses,” said Sanjay Mewada, NetCracker’s Vice President of Strategy. “We are committed to the Catalyst Program and other initiatives that enable the prototyping of innovative solutions required by the new Services Ecosystem.”

To monetize the Services Ecosystem, CSPs need to abstract service attributes from the network, build service elements, create a service assembly infrastructure, and syndicate service elements to third parties. Service elements provided by different CSPs are assembled into service bundles using cross-domain service templates and assembly mechanisms. These service bundles can then be delivered over any infrastructure.

NetCracker’s Service Management Solution is a core component of the Syndicated Services Catalyst Project architecture. Service elements that have been abstracted from the network are stored in NetCracker’s Service Catalog and exposed to Ecosystem partners using industry-standard interfaces. NetCracker provides order entry, service provisioning, and service activation across CSP borders. Using these capabilities, CSPs can associate resources, services, and customers with each other — creating an important input to service assurance systems — and ultimately improve the customer experience. In addition, NetCracker provides service lifecycle management over diversified service platforms and business domains.

Phase 1 of the Syndicated Services Catalyst Project successfully demonstrated how a service that has been created in a hosted environment can be syndicated and used by other service providers. Phase 1 also defined business agreements, a common method of exposing services, and the kinds of data that must be exchanged. Leveraging the experience it gained in Phase 1, NetCracker subsequently contributed new use cases and requirements to the TM Forum’s Service Delivery Framework Program.

Phase 2 has focused on SLA Management, including Quality of Service (QoS) Provisioning and Assurance. Along with NetCracker, Accenture, BT, CA, Microsoft, Telefónica, Tribold, and Verizon are participating in Phase 2.

For more information about NetCracker’s contribution to the Syndicated Services Catalyst Project or to schedule a time to attend a demonstration at Management World, please contact Juliet Shavit at jshavit@smartmarkusa.com
