Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

OMG and BPTrends Announce Winners of Business Process Management Case Study Competition

OMG™ and BPTrends are proud to announce the winners of the Business Process Management (BPM) Case Study Competition. The competition was open to organizations of all sizes, including government agencies that demonstrated an outstanding understanding of BPM. For more information on the winners, visit http://www.bpm-consortium.org/w-pr.

The goal of the BPM Case Study Competition was to highlight business success stories and lessons learned to provide proof points and insights for other organizations considering or pursuing BPM adoption. To qualify for the competition, the BPM project must have been completed with demonstrated business results. Because of the high quality of the submissions, the judges decided to designate both winners and runner-ups in categories where there were two especially fine submissions.

Best Overall Enterprise-wide BPM Effort – University of California, San Diego

Runner-up: Intel Corporation

Best Overall Single BPM Application – Arizona Public Service

Best BPM Application that Demonstrates the Use of Business Process Standards – European Union’s GENESIS Project

BPM Application that Demonstrates the Best Return on Investment – US Military Entrance Command (USMEPCOM)

Runner-up: Dickerson Financial Corporation (DFC)

“We know that Business Process Management can bring great value to an enterprise in terms of re-use, efficiency, compliance, optimization, etc. This is evident not by theory but by implementation,” said Karen D. Larkowski, general manager, OMG and BPM Consortium. “This competition provided great insight into the ways that companies are maximizing the performance of their business processes through BPM best practices and proof that the technology is mature and experienced resources are available."

“Over the past few years I’ve been asked to participate in judging several contests designed to identify outstanding BPM and BPMS applications. In most cases the applications reflected efforts by companies that were just learning about the technology, or they were narrowly focused efforts that only described a specific automation project. The OMG competition was very different,” said Paul Harmon, executive editor and founder, BPTrends. “Many companies submitted applications to the OMG contest, and several of these submittals were outstanding. These applications demonstrate that BPM has come of age and that companies are beginning to integrate a wide variety of business process technologies and standards to create useful, innovative, and valuable applications. Even more important, they demonstrate that a growing number of organizations are committing themselves to using processes to innovate and manage the way they do business.”

Entries were judged on the complexity of the business problem addressed, the ROI/Business Value achieved (Agility/Innovation/Flexibility), the level and sophistication of the cross-organizational collaboration (Business/Technical) and the usage of BPM approaches and supporting technology.
