Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Infravio Markets "Intentional SOA"
Miko Matsumura Selected to Drive Strategy That He Named

Infravio, Inc. has announced that Miko Matsumura has joined the company as vice president of marketing, highlighting the industry’s shift towards Intentional SOA, an architectural approach to enterprise SOA Web Services design focused on capturing the business value of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA).

The former vice president of product marketing at Systinet Corporation, co-creator of SOA Blueprints at The Middleware Company, and the original Java Evangelist at Sun Microsystems, Matsumura will direct the company’s marketing programs and strategy as the company accelerates its successes with customers in the SOA Web Services market.

“We are honored to welcome Miko to the Infravio team,” stated Srinivas Balasubramanian, founder and CEO at Infravio. “Miko’s experience at SOA companies like Systinet brings great value to us, and his decision to join Infravio is a testament to our vision, our innovative products, and market potential.”

Added Matsumura, “My research of the SOA space shows Infravio has been consistently customer-focused and has dedicated over 100 man years in Web Services product development. These qualities make Infravio SOA metadata capabilities ideal for the business-focused requirements of Intentional SOA. Infravio has led some of the largest and most sophisticated SOA Web Services projects in the industry, delivering innovative technologies like Web Service Delivery Contracts.”

Intentional SOA, a methodology devised by Matsumura, is about ensuring the business value of SOA using best practices and principles. It raises key questions designed to help SOA builders stay on course during design and implementation. Intentional SOA moves beyond ad hoc Web Services enablement, mandating a strategic, enterprise-wide view that directly addresses the gamut of business, technology, security, and governance concerns posed by SOA.

“As more organizations move from SOA investigation to implementation, Intentional SOA emerges as a critical factor in securing the reuse, agility and runtime governance advantages promised by SOA,” said Mary Coleman, Board of Directors member of Infravio. “Miko’s immersion in diverse standards, strategies and perspectives of SOA Web Services gives him a deep understanding of the market, making him a key hire for Infravio in its market expansion.”

Before joining Infravio, Matsumura emerged as an industry thought leader at The Middleware Company, where he was a co-creator responsible for building the partner program for SOA Blueprints, the first complete vendor-neutral specification of an SOA application set, supported by BEA, Borland, HP, Microsoft, Oracle, Sun Microsystems, Veritas and others.

At Systinet, Matsumura worked with the executive team and offshore development center on product development, product strategy, and outbound marketing, including representing the company at industry events. Prior to his tenure at The Middleware Company and Systinet, Matsumura held the position of Chief Java Evangelist for Sun Microsystems, where he was a visible spokesperson for Java technologies and worked closely with Java ISVs and licensees to further the developer community.

Before Sun, Matsumura worked at Wired Digital (acquired by Lycos) and the Well online community (acquired by Salon). He has also worked extensively with software start-up companies, including Biztone and Kalepa Networks (acquired by Semio) raising more than 12 million in capital for Java start-ups. Matsumura is currently a limited partner with Focus Ventures and was an advisor to the Asia Java Fund, as well as start-ups TogetherSoft (acquired by Borland), Dejima (acquired by Sybase and Kendara (acquired by Excite).
