Optichron, based in Fremont, CA, has developd what it calls TurboLinear technology to handle nonlinear distortion. The company will embed the technology in all of its integrated circuits, to address applications in the data conversion, wireless, disk storage, and satellite communications markets. Company CEO Roy Batruni describes the company as a “fabless start-up,” operating since 2003, with $26 milliion in Series A and B funding to date. He said its mission statement is “to apply its proprietary and fundamental advancements in nonlinear signal processing to deliver the highest performance mixed signal and communications integrated circuit products in the industry.” “Nonlinear impairments are a dominant limitation in ADCs,” according to a company presentation. The effects of this distortion are difficult to eliminate, considered to be an “intractable problem (that is) difficult to model accurately and to solve mathematically.” Existing methods to address this problem “are too expensive and inaccurate,” according to Batruni, resulting in “sub-optimal systems, lowered data throughput, increased power consumption and system costs, and corrupting signals,” he noted. Optichron’s Turbolinear approach is “based on powerful mathematical derivations,” according to the company presentation cited above, “(have) robust algorithmic solutions…(and) removes this distortion.” The company claims a 90% reduction in ACD and amp distortion with its technology, with a higher performance and lowered costs as results. Batruni said the first ADC module products are now in the customer sampling stage.
