Lectra Showcases Latest Innovations for Industrial Fabrics at the WINDPOWER 2009 Show
The Company Presents Its Complete, Integrated Offering Dedicated to the Processing of Industrial Fabrics for the Manufacturing of Wind Turbine Blades

ATLANTA, GA -- (Marketwire) -- 05/04/09 -- Lectra, the world leader in integrated technology solutions dedicated to industries using soft materials -- textiles, leather, industrial fabrics, and composite materials -- showcases its complete and integrated suite of solutions dedicated to the manufacturing of industrial fabrics for the wind energy industry at the WINDPOWER 2009 Show.

Held at McCormick Place Convention Center in Chicago, May 4th - 7th, the WINDPOWER 2009 Conference & Exhibition is North America's largest wind energy industry event of the year and expects over 15,000 wind energy professionals to attend. Lectra (booth #2108) will showcase its latest innovations for automating wind blade development and production, the VectorTechTexFX cutting solution for single and multiple ply cutting and DesignConcept 3D, its 3D/2D conception and industrialization solution dedicated to industrial fabrics.

Today, all industrial fabrics manufacturers have one thing in common: a need to produce a wide range of products with a very high level of precision. Ever-tighter shipment deadlines and controlling costs are major strategic challenges. These companies are under constant pressure to minimize material waste and reduce errors. Whether they make Formula 1 cars, wind turbine blades, boat hulls or aircraft components, they have their own specific needs and demand totally dedicated solutions.

All these challenges dictate that these businesses use the most innovative tools and secure processes to achieve success. By offering a truly and complete integrated range of solutions from the creation of 3D models all the way through cutting, Lectra is the only integrated technology solutions (software, CAD/CAM equipment and associated services) supplier that can offer the industrial fabrics manufacturers of wind turbine blades flexibility, accuracy, control and success in their global process. Using a wide scope of proven technologies, Lectra ensures global management of product development through a complete set of applications associated with a value-added service offering.

The United States wind energy industry installed 5,249 MW in 2007 and expected to add more than 7,500 MW in 2008. In order to produce 20% of the nation's power by 2030, the industry will have to ramp up in the next decade to be able to install 16,000 MW each year.

"The high global demand for wind turbines are driving an unprecedented growth in the wind energy industry," said Roy Shurling, President for Lectra North America. "By offering a complete solution from product design through manufacturing that results from our strong commitment to innovation, Lectra's high performance solutions for the conception, industrialization and cutting of industrial fabrics ensure that our wind turbine clients are well positioned to meet the needs of this growing sector. We are pleased to have over 60 wind power cutters installed throughout Europe, China and the US and that most of top 10 suppliers to the wind energy sector are Lectra customers."

Lectra cutting solutions: power with intelligence

At the show, Lectra will present its VectorTechTex FX which is ideally suited to wind turbine blade manufactures needing to process a variety of materials from pre-preg carbons, to multi-ply layers of dry materials like fiberglass and even core materials such as phenolic honeycomb.

Lectra also recently launched the VectorTechTex FX Extended. This new Vector has been designed to specifically meet the needs of companies cutting very long pieces in composite materials, such as blades for wind turbines and helicopter rotors. The VectorTechTex FX Extended offers an increase in productivity of up to 20% when cutting long pieces compared with the standard VectorTechTex cutters. Able to cut pieces up to 4.2m long and 2.5cm thick, this model can also be fitted with an inkjet printer to ensure the traceability of cut pieces, and is therefore perfectly able to fulfill the stringent requirements of aerospace industries.

High performance 3D/2D conception software

Lectra will also present DesignConcept TechTex, its 3D/2D conception and industrialization solution dedicated to advanced materials. Based on Lectra's solid experience in industrial manufacturing solutions, this application provides powerful tools to facilitate the analysis of product feasibility, finished product quality, and cost, thus enabling companies to make key decisions in the product development phase of wind turbine blades and thereby reduce time to market and minimize costs.
