Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Nimsoft Acquires Layer2/Layer3 Discovery, Topology Mapping and Root Cause Analysis Intellectual Property From Cittio Inc.
Purchase Will Accelerate Delivery of These Capabilities Into the Nimsoft Monitoring Solution

REDWOOD CITY, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 05/18/09 -- Nimsoft Inc., the Big 4 alternative for IT performance and availability monitoring solutions, today announced that it had acquired the Intellectual Property assets of Cittio Inc., a former provider of automated network and systems monitoring software. Financial details were not disclosed. The purchase, which includes extended capabilities in the areas of layer2/layer3 network discovery, topology mapping and root cause analysis, will enable Nimsoft to rapidly deliver these advanced capabilities within its core products, further strengthening its ability to monitor the performance and availability of an organization's entire physical, virtual and cloud infrastructure.

The technology, already deployed in multiple Cittio customers, will create and display an accurate topology of the customer's IT infrastructure by using powerful discovery capabilities that will discover the infrastructure, including both the physical and virtual elements. This will extend to all network elements at Layer 2 and Layer 3 and, when combined with Nimsoft's state of the art monitoring solution, will drive automated Root Cause Analysis. Nimsoft will be continuing the advancement of these technologies, hiring several former Cittio engineers.

"Nimsoft's approach has always been to bring Performance & Availability Monitoring solutions to our customers to drive greater operational efficiency, agility and ultimately, profitability," said Gary Read, president and CEO of Nimsoft. "With this purchase, we will be accelerating the delivery of this advanced functionality normally associated with specialized or expensive network monitoring products. This was an item that was already on our development roadmap, but purchase will enable us to deliver more rapidly."

Dave Durkee, CEO of cloud-based infrastructures provider Enki, said, "I was very familiar with the Cittio technology at the time that we elected to move forward with Nimsoft. We were more comfortable with the breadth of Nimsoft's solution as well as solid financial position of the company. Now it looks like I'll be getting the advanced pieces of Cittio's solution as part of my Nimsoft investment thus further validating my decision. Nimsoft is clearly a company on a mission and I'm not aware of anyone that comes close to their capabilities at this point."
