Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

McObject & MPC Data Partner in European Embedded Markets
Provider of database technology for embedded systems, Java and mobile devices gets boost from UK-based technology expert

McObject has announced a partnership with UK-based MPC Data. In the alliance, MPC Data will distribute McObject’s eXtremeDB™ and Perst™ embedded database software, and provide services surrounding the technology, in key European embedded development markets including automotive, mobile computing and phones, consumer electronics, medical products, industrial control, netcom/telecom and retail.

The partnership centers on the UK, Scandinavia and other northern European countries, where MPC Data already has significant clientele. MPC Data provides design, consultancy, project management and development services and is recognized as a solutions provider for Microsoft Windows Embedded platforms, RTOS such as the QNX real-time operating system and embedded Linux, and semiconductor platforms solutions such as TI, Renesas, Intel and Freescale, among other technologies. MPC Data expressed excitement over adding McObject’s embedded database software to its technology portfolio.

“Incorporating an embedded database has become a 'must' in many development projects. In our evaluation, we determined that eXtremeDB offers the greatest range of technical features among embedded databases for real-time systems, with the best performance and an outstanding support organization. We expect our partnership with McObject to be highly productive,” said Steve Harper, MPC Data’s managing director

Mr. Harper singled out McObject’s eXtremeDB High Availability (HA) edition, as well as its eXtremeDB Fusion hybrid in-memory/on-disk embedded database, as holding immediate promise for customers. eXtremeDB-HA enables fault-tolerant architectures via multiple, synchronized database copies, with automatic failover. eXtremeDB Fusion combines on-disk and in-memory storage in a single database system, enabling developers to optimize for persistence, performance, cost and form factor.

eXtremeDB-HA provides a key element that is missing in other embedded database product families: a proven high availability solution, for growing markets including industrial control and telecom. eXtreme DB Fusion is a great example of how McObject pushes the envelope to provide database technology that gives developers the utmost flexibility,” Mr. Harper said.

McObject’s embedded database products also offer a small code footprint (100K for eXtremeDB); minimal CPU demands; rich developer tools, including support for a wide range of data and query types; and exceptional portability. In addition to eXtremeDB, McObject provides Perst, an open source, object-oriented embedded database for Java and .NET. Perst is used widely in embedded and mobile environments, including on BlackBerry, Android and other smartphones.

“We are thrilled that McObject is gaining a partner with deep technical skills and a broad marketing reach in European markets. MPC Data’s expertise and its existing alliances with operating system and hardware vendors map almost perfectly to our technology. This translates to a high level of synergy between the companies. We look forward to making this compatibility bear fruit in the form of new business and increased market share,” Chris Mureen, McObject’s chief operating officer, said.
