Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Iron Speed Designer Version 6.1 Released
New team features speed development of .NET web apps

Software development tools-maker Iron Speed, Inc. has released Iron Speed Designer Version 6.1, the latest version of its Web 2.0 application generator. Iron Speed Designer generates rich interactive data entry and reporting applications for .NET. The new source control file detection in Iron Speed Designer improves team usability of the product. This along with the enhanced page layout editor and support for Microsoft IE8 helps IT departments generate robust, productivity-enhancing applications out-of-the-box.

New Team Development Features
Iron Speed Designer now detects files that may be under source code control and alerts you to check them out before regenerating your application. Source code control file detection enables multiple team members to collectively work on the same project, thereby accelerating team productivity.

This release also features a new improved code generation algorithm that updates fewer code files and stored procedures. This reduces contention between team members because there are fewer files to check out, compile and check back into your source control system.

New Generated Application Features
Iron Speed Designer now supports Microsoft IE8 and 64-bit DLLs. Generated applications have always run on 32-bit machines and now they will run on 64-bit as well. Application users can also view multi-level menus and other controls in their IE8 browser seamlessly.

Enhanced Page Layout Editor
Version 6.1 includes a variety of enhancements to the page layout editor, including customizable row style attributes and vertical and horizontal cell alignment. The new right-click menu commands make the page layout editor very intuitive.

Iron Speed Designer Version 6.1 System Requirements
Iron Speed Designer Version 6.1 runs on Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 and 2008 and Windows Vista. It generates .NET Web applications for Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, Microsoft Access and MySQL. These applications may be deployed on any machine running the .NET Framework.
